Judge Marcus has been a full-time neutral since January 2002. He has mediated approximately 1400 cases and arbitrated 30 matters in that period.
The Los Angeles Daily Journal recognized Judge Marcus in 2007, 2009, 2010 and 2011 as one of the top 50 neutrals in California. He is also a Super Lawyer for 2008-2011.
Before becoming a full-time neutral in 2002, Judge Marcus was the Supervising Judge of the California State Bar Court. Prior to his 1995 appointment, he was first a Los Angeles County Deputy District Attorney for seventeen years and was then in private practice for another ten years, where he was involved in commercial litigation and criminal defense.
Judge Marcus is a frequent speaker on mediation, arbitration, legal ethics, legal malpractice and trial strategy. He has also taught Mediation Ethics and Strategy at Pepperdine School of Law's Straus Institute for Dispute Resolution, Evidence at USC Law School and Criminal Law and Procedure at Southwestern Law School. Judge Marcus is currently writing California Courtroom Conduct: the Do's and Don’ts of Litigation for West Publishing. The third edition of his Trial Preparation for Prosecutors was published by Matthew Bender in 2010.
