John Friedman - JFRQ Consulting
John Friedman, CFP®, is a unique sort of financial planner: his services focus solely on helping people make better financial decisions, and his clients pay him directly for those services, on an hourly or flat-fee basis.
John does not sell insurance, and he does not directly manage money for clients. Instead, when his clients have those sorts of needs, or a need for other specialists, John helps them find the right person to fit their need.

John's business is founded on the idea that many people would like to have a financial advisor who simply provides advice, without also bundling that advice in with anything else whatsoever: no bundling with product sales, no bundling with asset management, no bundling, period.
That's what John does: he works with individuals, families and business owners to help them figure out how to best make their way in the financial world out there, all with the goal of helping them improve their overall financial health, wherever that goal might lead and whatever it might mean to a given client.
The advice John provide rests on more than a quarter century of experience providing good counsel to clients, first as a lawyer, helping clients make good legal decisions, then as a business consultant, helping business owners make good business decisions, and now as a financial advisor, helping clients make good financial decisions.
John also helps people implement and monitor the decisions they've made, and, as warranted, helps them re-assess and re-jigger those decisions.
When a client has an unfilled need that can be met by sales professionals (e.g., insurance and mortgage needs) or service professionals (e.g. legal and money management needs), John refers the client out to people he believes can best meet the client's need.
|
| |
John has a menu of service offerings from which clients choose, ranging from Whole Shebang offerings, which look into the client's entire financial life, to One-Off Consultations, which look into a single facet of the client's financial life, and ranging from offerings in which the client hands off documents and data to John, who then prepares and provides to the client a deliverable addressing the questions the client wants to have addressed, to offerings in which the client is very much involved in the entire process via a series of one-on-one conversations.
John is always happy to custom-tailor a service offering to a given client's particular wishes and needs.
|
| |
All of John's clients share one trait: they want a financial advisor who can help them make and implement great financial decisions, and who does not at the same time need to sell them products and who does not at the same time need to gather their assets.
In short, every client of John's finds value in John's complete independence -- in there being no one else in the room, so to speak, looking over the client's and John's shoulders when the client is making very personal, very important, decisions.

John works with individuals and families from all sorts of backgrounds, and has purposefully designed his business and the processes within it to be available to people of nearly all means.
In terms of niches, John has worked with a lot of technology workers and entrepreneurs, and with a lot of builders and architects, to name but a few.
And in terms of life stages, John has worked with a lot of people either planning happy transitions (e.g. retirement, having children, etc.) or responding to major changes (e.g. divorce, death of a spouse, etc.).

John meets with people in person at 417 Montgomery Street, in San Francisco (between the BofA building and the Pyramid). He also meets over the phone with people living throughout California and in various states throughout the country.
