Fenton Nelson represents health care providers, including health care professionals, facilities, and other organizations, in business and regulatory matters. Although our practice focuses on California, our attorneys are routinely asked to advise business organizations that are national in scope.
As a result of our landmark victories over the past 25 years, we have earned a reputation as the "go-to" firm for health care matters. We feel that the law is progression. Our attorneys have defended health care providers in investigations and actions before the widest range of federal and California state regulatory agencies. We have tried cases for our clients at every level. We also provide high quality counsel in transactional and compliance matters to enable clients to achieve their business objectives.
Clients rely on our detailed knowledge and deep understanding of the complexities of the health care industries, from the widest range of medical practice subspecialties to skilled nursing facilities, hospice and home health providers. We make it our business to be current in the regulatory requirements with which our clients are required to comply. As a result, we are able to offer smart, effective counsel and representation in a manner that is highly responsive, efficient, and strategic.

We handle everything from administrative hearings and litigation to a robust transactional and proactive compliance planning. One of the things that makes us different is that we handle so many cases where clients come to us after things went badly –after the government is knocking at the door – that we are uniquely positioned to help others avoid the same mistakes. Whether the issue is state licensing, Medicare or Medicaid enrollment, FDA, DEA, or some other part of the healthcare regulatory “alphabet soup,” we have developed a more “tactile” feel for what regulators care about and how risks need to be managed.
Understanding risk is ultimately what it’s all about. We’ve grown because our clients have come to appreciate our laser-like focus on the risks relevant to them. Because we are not satisfied with a shallow understanding of their businesses, but instead start off with a deep understanding of their licensing, operational, and reimbursement risks. When it comes to regulatory requirements in healthcare, we are committed to being on top of both the breaking news and spotting the trends in enforcement.
Our goal is to be a trustworthy partner that is not simply fixing problems as they arise, but that is giving strategic counsel.

Fenton Nelson represents every variety of health care provider. Our clients range from individual physicians and medical groups to facilities, such as skilled nursing facilities, surgery centers, sleep centers, imaging facilities, drug and alcohol treatment centers, hospitals, and DME suppliers. We represent several independent physician associations (IPA's). From time to time, we represent businesses who provide ancillary services to providers, such as health care marketing and consultants, who also need to be sensitive to health care regulatory issues.
