After working for five years as a rocket scientist -- modeling the space shuttle arm, simluating Trident missile launches, building the GPS system, and shooting laser beams as rocket flames -- I now protect the inventions and creativity of others. I am a partner at Cislo & Thomas LLP, a 10-attorney law firm in Santa Monica that specializes exclusively in IP litigation, protection, and valuation.
Each of our attorneys has a strong engineering or science background, and each is fully experienced in both drafting patent, copyright, and trademark applications, as well as licensing and litigating patent, copyright, trademark, and trade secret matters. Our philosophy is to use our experiences from our litigation practice to keep our patent, trademark, and copyright prosecution and licensing strategies always ahead of other firms; and to use our experiences from our drafting and prosecution practice to keep our litigation strategies first rate and fully informed. We have technical expertise in nearly every field of science and engineering, we handle litigation in every corner of the country, and we have developed a worldwide network of local intellectual property practitioners to serve our clients’ international intellectual property needs. We always focus on the real goal for our clients, namely, how best to increase our clients’ wealth and profitability.
". . . because protecting your intellectual property IS rocket science."

We brought a $30 million patent infringement lawsuit to a screaching halt by getting the U.S. Patent Office to reexamine the asserted patent, but not before getting nine of the ten defendants dismissed from the case.
I patented the wheel for a client, as well as a way to turn ocean wave energy into electricity, a casino game that is more fun than craps, a cauterizing surgical tweezer, a guitar body, and a six-wheeled skateboard. I registered the trademarks BOLLYWOOD and ROCKET BOY, and I have registered the copyright for a comic book character and a routine for hypnotherapy.
As soon as I can get the client out of the courtroom and back to business of focusing on business, I do so.
